DIY Chair Rail

Welcome to Slumberland Furniture's Award Winning Web Series, Design Clips!

One of the easiest ways to add dimension to a room is with a painted chair wall.

In this room the walls are a neutral gray. Adding some interest is literally as easy as 1,2, 3.

  • Using painter’s tape, create the division. Standard chair wall height is 36” up from the floor, but you can choose the height that works for you, depending on the height of your walls.

  • Now that everything is taped off, it’s time to paint. We chose a deep rich charcoal to contrast with the lighter gray. Roll on two coats of the color you chose. When it’s dry, remove the tape. The nice thing with doing a painted chair wall is you don’t have to worry if the paint line isn’t perfect because....

  • We’re going to cover it up!  You can find chair wall molding at any home supply store, and you’ll have a choice of the look you want. We chose white, a simple and elegant cut.

Now we adhere the molding to the wall with a nail gun or hammer and finish nails.

Done and done. A beautiful chair wall that doesn’t take much time or money.

Bring the furniture back in, and you have a room with more dimension and interest.
