Slumberland Furniture Store Opens Store in Benton Harbor
Real Estate developer Jim Paul opens first Slumberland store in Southwest Michigan
TWIN CITIES, Mich. – June 10, 2011 – Slumberland Furniture is pleased to announce the opening of its 121st location. Jim Paul, local developer of the Fairplain Plaza, is the owner of the newest Slumberland franchise in Southwest Michigan’s twin city, Benton Harbor. The store's soft opening will be on July 23, 2011 with a grand opening event beginning on July 30, 2011. This is the second Slumberland store to be open in Michigan; the other store is located in Iron Mountain. The Benton Harbor store will be located at 756 East Napier Avenue (on Napier just west of M-139).
"We're excited about the opportunity to bring Slumberland Furniture—a large quality furniture store—to meet the needs of the families here in the twin cities market,” said Jim Paul. "For over 20 + years in the twin cities market, furniture has been grossly underserved. I am happy to be a part of the Slumberland family and its culture in working with people and serving their communities."
Constructed by local contractors the store is approximately 40,000 square feet with an attached warehouse. On June 18, Slumberland will be taking applications at the Slumberland Job Fair held at the new Benton Harbor Slumberland store. Approximately 15 twin cities employees will be hired.
The store's manager Mark Olson, a Slumberland store manager for thirty years will run the day-to-day operations of the store. Olson's wife, Lisa is a former resident of St. Joseph and is returning to the area after leaving over 30 years ago. Lisa has worked at Slumberland Corporate offices in Little Canada, Minnesota for over 25 years and currently is the Payroll Manager.
CEO, Ken Larson, President and Larson Enterprises own Slumberland Corporation. Under the direction of the Larsons, Slumberland’s unique work culture includes a strong foundation of values providing a guide for the company’s daily operations.
According to Mark Olson the store’s team mission is to “improve the life of each customer, while supporting employees who work with enthusiasm and care to ensure a positive Slumberland experience.”
One of the Slumberland core values is “giving back to the community” and Slumberland has given away over 20,000 beds to local charities to distribute since 1993. Through Slumberland’s 40 Winks Foundation and the “Homes for the Holidays” an annual giving event, Slumberland is able to provide box springs and mattresses for deserving families.
