Slumberland Furniture Opens 121st Store in Benton Harbor
Bed making contest highlights grand opening activities
TWIN CITIES, Mich. – July 20, 2011 – Slumberland Furniture will celebrate the grand opening of its 121st store, located in Benton Harbor, Mich., on Saturday, July 30. The new 40,000 square-foot store is located at 756 East Napier Avenue (on Napier just west of M-139) and will host a series of grand opening activities including a ribbon-cutting ceremony on Friday, July 29, and an attempt at breaking the Guinness Book of World Records bed-making contest.
Local Boys & Girls Club children will receive a bed-making demonstration and subsequently compete in a bed-making contest 11:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m. to win prizes. Beginning Saturday at noon, the public will be invited to attempt to break the current bed-making records of 28.2 seconds for an individual or 14 seconds for a two-person team.
To coincide with the contest, Slumberland is also making a donation of 40 twin size bed sets (mattress, box spring and frame) that will be divided amongst the United Way’s Child & Family Services, Women’s Shelter, Habitat for Humanity, Salvation Army and the Boys & Girls Club.
“For too many children and families across America, getting a good night’s sleep is only something they dream about. That’s why we created the 40 Winks Foundation,” said CEO Ken Larson.
One of the Slumberland core values is “giving back to the community” and Slumberland has given away over 20,000 beds to local charities to distribute since 1993. Through Slumberland’s 40 Winks Foundation and Homes for the Holidays, an annual giving event, Slumberland is able to provide box springs and mattresses for deserving families.
Additionally, Slumberland will promote special grand opening sales events storewide. With doors opening to the public at 10:00 a.m., the public is invited to enter a drawing to win a $1,000 Slumberland shopping spree. Winners will be announced on August 31.
